desolation

finally... drum roll....i'm done with Desolation Angels. I admit it took a little long but it was worth my time--i think. there were some great stuff in there, some very odd ways of looking at things. tells a lot about kerouac himself too, just a little bitter in the senses.

more importantly it had me thinking about desolation, and how i love and loath it within me. Was that the whole point? Was there ever a point?

tarantula

just got home--barely after midnight.

we had a little dinner-movie-coffee get together with 3 of my good friends. gave them their bday presents incase i don't see them for a while. (bought a poetry bok by cemal süreyya to one and waiting for the sun to the other)

then a miracle happened. i got into my fave place on earth and actually found dylan's tarantula and i can't even find whitman in this place. also bought some blake. then had dinner. then starbucks. then home.

good day good food good friends good books. what more do you want?

thriller

micheal jackson passed away last night.

though i've never been a huge dedicated fan i do have--as anyone ever walked on this earth--a sudden desire to dance when i hear his stuff. and for a genre that is not very qualified in my opinion, micheal jackson is a qualified man. maybe not the most sane one of the bunch, but his music has been the best of its kind. and when you see someone worthy of respect for their talent, you gotta give it to them, whether you like what they do or not.

not to mention that he was after all a very cornerstone figure of the popular culture in which i grew up. so i guess there isn't much to say than rest in peace, micheal, be well and keep dancing to the other end.

"strike another match, go start anew..."

album of the week*

*of the month, of the year--depends how my brain keeps up with this new habit

so i decided to pick an album every now and then for my own lovely pleasure--and to talk about it and such to keep passing the time. and i start off with one classic piece of juicy rock'n roll, and i kinda have to, i just watched a live performance and it was just flaming. so here it goes my first album of the whatever:

released in 1987, AFD is still the fastest selling debut album of all time--not to mention that it is and most likely will forever be gnr's greatest. i haven't heard any of them today bands (that includes gnr after this one, though the illusions were not so bad, even CD) start off with something like this. i'm telling you people, it is one of the greatest albums of all time. here's what could be one of the cutest mtv interviews in history:

anyways, my fave track?--rocket queen, of course. here's a delicious live performance:

so long people.

ps: still struggling with desolation angels though i have to say it's getting better. i think i'll be stopping by the school on thursday to exchange some books--go with some blake and swan's way vol.2 with vol.1, hopefully. have the greatest plans of working out later.

love ya.

mayonnaise comes in cans--down the river

All right, Jack, you're wearing me out a little.

Desolation Angels lies in my hands quite often these days but we just didn't seem to be clicking. With On The Road, it was much different and much faster--probably due to the fact that it had an ongoing story, based more on events than on opinions. I like opionated books, I swear I do, but dunno why this one just drags me along. I'm still in the first hundered pages and it's been almost a week since I wrapped up Go! and picked this one up.

I'm holding my breath till it gets to the story part, but i feel terrible for that, cause i feel like i'm not getting it, at least what i should be getting, and that frustrates me. SO I read the lines over and over, trying to wrap my head around it. but i'm not giving up, i will read it to the end and then cast my judgements--for crime and punishment had killed me for weeks before I finished it and realized what a great book it really was. so some times these things take time. And I have faith in Jack.

I'll let you know how it all goes down, the Void.

...

Now that the whole shenanigans about the grades are over here's a taste of the good things in life:

"Seek Love in the pity of others' woe,
In the gentle relief of another's care,
In the darkness of night and the winter's snow,
In the naked and outcast, seek Love there!" -

-- William Blake

ha!

oh man thought i was stuck with that stupid course forever--but i scored pretty good. my best avarage so far. that's a relief!

judgement day

so now that go! is history, a dreadful decision awaits: should i go for the idiot or the electric kool aid acid test??? oh boy, which one should i choose?...

summertime love

so came home this morning and slept the rest of the day to work out that weariness of not getting enough sleep from the previous day. but i did have a good time nonetheless. and slept like an angel--for about 4 hours or so =) another thing i figured out, don't start of with the jack. try a beer first, then get the stomach to hallelujah later.

so i robbed the library the day before yesterday. here's what's in store for me over the next couple of months--till the 28th of september, to be exact.

of course most of these are not the publications that i got--since mine are so old that mostly they are one plain color with no title or anything on the cover which is the way i like it, all dusty and old. makes me wonder all the hands that flipped those pages before you--i sometimes get those from way back--like from 1935 or 1917 or something and they are the most beautiful things.

so long.

free bird!

no that is not in a sexual context.

as of last tuesday, i am one happy free bird--my finals are done. went out and did a proper celebration. got wasted sang karaoke and listened to tolunay (which means "full moon" in ancient turkish) howl to the morning ezan. funny how the ingredients of the city you breathe in makes up who you are, no matter how much you'd like to run to or from it. some things won't get to you like some others will. tolunay's howl was one of those things. it was an istanbul morning in the making. one of those things that you will remember when you're away and alone.

lots of things come out in the night. i realized my whole life had been on the road. this city is just one endless colored crazy road.

tried 2 awesome drinks last night--no wait-- was it the night before that?: svetta and parachute. svetta is just plain awesome and it's legally the closest thing you get to smoking pot. it's fun people, try it. make sure you do. it burns your throat a bit at first but still, it's a-game.

parachute is this thing where you first take a shot of what's called lime--keep it in your mouth--then do a daniels shot--and you swallow them together. you don't even feel the jack go down. so for those you can't seem to bear the alpha male i'd suggest parachute.

loving northern exposure. could be the cutest thing on tv for years...

here's full moon:

love you all.
